Eccentric debris disc morphologies II: Surface brightness variations from overlapping orbits in narrow eccentric discs

چکیده

Abstract We present Paper II of the Eccentric Debris Disc Morphologies series to explore effects that significant free and forced eccentricities have on high-resolution millimetre-wavelength observations debris discs, motivated by recent ALMA images HD53143’s disc. In this work, we eccentricity, varying disc fractional widths observational resolutions, show for a range narrow eccentric orbital overlaps result in dust emission distributions either one or two radial peaks at apocentre and/or pericentre. The narrowest discs contain peaks, whereas broadest just peak. For fixed eccentricities, as are increased, these merge first (producing glow), then pericentre glow). Our work thus demonstrates apocentre/pericentre glows models with constant can be both width resolution dependent millimetre wavelengths, challenging classical assertion purely wavelength dependent. discuss future distinguish between competing interpretations underlying eccentricity distributions.

Formation of planetary debris discs around white dwarfs II: Shrinking extremely eccentric collisionless rings

The formation channel of the tens of compact debris discs which orbit white dwarfs (WDs) at a distance of one Solar radius remains unknown. Asteroids that survive the giant branch stellar phases beyond a few au are assumed to be dynamically thrust towards the WD and tidally disrupted within its Roche radius, generating extremely eccentric (e > 0.98) rings. Here, we establish that WD radiation c...

Fuzzy Sliding Mode for Spacecraft Formation Control in Eccentric Orbits

The problem of relative motion control for spacecraft formation flying in eccentric orbits is considered in this paper. Due to the presence of nonlinear dynamics and external disturbances, a robust fuzzy sliding mode controller is developed. The slopes of sliding surfaces of the conventional sliding mode controller are tuned according to error states using a fuzzy logic and reach the pre-define...

Structuring eccentric-narrow planetary rings

A simple and general description of the dynamics of a narrow-eccentric ring is presented. We view an eccentric ring which precesses uniformly at a slow rate as exhibiting a global m = 1 mode, which can be seen as originating from a standing wave superposed on an axisymmetric background. We adopt a continuum description using the language of fluid dynamics which gives equivalent results for the ...

Type Ii Migration of Planets on Eccentric Orbits

The observed extrasolar planets possess both large masses (with a median M sin i of 1.65 MJ) and a wide range in orbital eccentricity (0 < e < 0.94). As planets are thought to form in circumstellar disks, one important question in planet formation is determining whether, and to what degree, a gaseous disk affects an eccentric planet’s orbit. Recent studies have probed the interaction between a ...

Two New Candidate Planets in Eccentric Orbits

Doppler measurements of two G–type main–sequence stars, HD210277 and HD168443, reveal Keplerian variations that imply the presence of companions with masses (M sin i ) of 1.28 and 5.04 MJUP and orbital periods of 437 d and 58 d, respectively. The orbits have large eccentricities of e=0.45 and e=0.54, respectively. All 9 known extrasolar planet candidates with a=0.2–2.5 AU have orbital eccentric...
